The opening night of the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction couldn’t have been any more surprising for its guests as a supercharged concept version of the Mustang-based 2011 Shelby GT350 took the center stage to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the first GT350 and the first Shelby Cobra.
The opening gala which took place in Scottsdale, Arizona was marked by Carroll Shelby and the Shelby American team unveiled the supercharged version of the 5.0-liter V-8 engine found in the latest Mustang. The Shelby American team worked with experts from Ford Racing, Goodyear, Borla, Cragar and Baer for the performance upgrades.
The GT350 will feature the new Ford V8 coupled to a 6 speed manual transmission and center exit exhaust. At $33,995 for the upgrade, the GT350 will get a new body kit, a supercharger producing 500 horsepower, Baer brakes front and rear , Cragar wheels and some Ford Racing suspension bits. As for the color combination, white with Guardsman Blue racing stripes is the only available option at present.
The limited edition car for the 2011 model year, will be launched this spring at a starting price of $33,995 plus a donor Mustang GT that would amount to a total of around the $60,000 – i.e. exceeding even the price for GT500. According to Shelby American 100 orders have already been placed. So any more interested buyers out there, shoot ahead?

Ford Mustang still sales king of the road over Chevrolet Camaro |
|

(from USA Today)
The tally was pretty darned close, considering that Chevrolet Camaro didn't start racking up sales until April, but the tally is now official: Ford Mustang was the more popular pony car last year.
Ford sold 66,623 Mustangs in 2009. Chevrolet sold 61,648 Camaros, according to Autodata. And Dodge Challenger? Not much a challenger at all with 25,852 sold. (And a shame, because it is a blast to drive and really deserves more attention.)
You may recall a post a week back in which Chevrolet was heartily boasting about how Camaro is eating up Mustang's market, so we're sure victory on a full-year basis is feeling oh-so-sweet in Dearborn.
Even though Camaro was new and back on the market, Mustang was no slouch. It got a cool new redesign last year.

5.0-liter V-8 Confirmed for 2011 Ford Mustang GT? |

We didn’t think the world’s worst-kept secret could be leaked any further, but rumor has it Ford has officially confirmed the 2011 Mustang GT will sport a new powertrain.
Fans of the 5.0-liter V-8 can apparently rejoice, as Inside Line reports several posts on Facebook -- reportedly from a Ford employee in the know -- possibly confirm such an engine will make its way into the 2011 Mustang GT. Power is estimated to be around 411 hp, and as we reported in our new car issue, the engine will be mated to your choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
We’ll know more about the new engine (code-named “Coyote”) come December 28, when Ford is expected to show us more about the ever-unfolding Mustang portfolio. Stay with Automobile Magazine for the latest on the Five-Oh Mustang and other news from the 2010 Detroit auto show.

Roush 427R 2010 Ford Mustangs Get Starring Role in The Wannabes |

(from Edmunds Insideline)
DETROIT — The Roush 427R 2010 Ford Mustangs are poised for their TV debut on the series The Wannabes, according to a company statement released on Monday. But don't expect a thriller along the lines of the remake of Death Race, the only time a Roush product has appeared on film thus far.
The synopsis of The Wannabes explains that the sitcom follows "six teens who want to be pop stars even if it means dressing up like fruit and rocking out in a local café." The fruit costumes, the synopsis explains, help the teens "to promote the latest smoothie creations."
Roush insists it is "excited to break into television with The Wannabes," in a company statement. "That is the type of program which is suitable for all members of the family and will have lasting appeal," said Joe Thompson, Roush Performance vice president and general manager, in a statement.
The sitcom will feature the Roush Ford Mustangs and "propane-powered vehicles," said the Dearborn tuner. The Roush Mustangs are said to play a "recurring role" in the sitcom, which is due out in April.
Roush had been poised to make its movie debut in Run, an action film that was described as a postmodern version of the 1968 Steve McQueen thriller Bullitt. But on Monday, Roush spokesman John Clark told Inside Line that the "Run movie never filmed," in response to an e-mailed query. "They haven't been able to finalize the financing among other things," Clark noted. He said the only movie product placement for Roush thus far has been "the remark of Death Race in 2008.... They opened the hood on the car and had a Roush crate engine powering the car," Clark wrote.
IMDb describes the remake of Death Race as a thriller that includes a car race in which inmates must brutalize and kill one another on the road to victory.
In stark contrast, The Wannabes is a "tween" television series starring the Savvy, a pop group that has toured with Radio Disney.
